The Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost, September 27, 2015

  • SUNDAY'S APPOINTED MASS READINGS: Numbers 11:4-6, 10-16, 24-29; Mark 9:38-50; Preaching: The Rector.  This marks our final Sunday in Summer Schedule—and we’ll send out our season of 10:00 a.m. Low Masses with Jazz@Mass!  Our own Willie Martinez and friends will lead our musical praise of Almighty God.  Note too, this will be the last Sunday of our Summer Food Drive.  If you have non-perishable food items you wish to donate to the cause of restocking the pantry at First Presbyterian, Brooklyn Heights, please bring them with you this Sunday.

THIS WEEKEND’S SPECIAL EVENTS!

Send out the summer and prepare for fall

  • THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, September 25, PARISH SUPPER!  Join us for the first in our new concept of totally-comforting Church Suppers, prepared and served to the public from Team Kitchen’s finished renovation!  The cuisine theme of the night will be “Church BBQ!”  Ken Schwartz and Keith Edwards will delight all palates at an unheard of $10 per adult, $5 per child ($25 max/family).  There will be a cash donation bar for beer and wine, and of course, “tips” for the cause of the new dishwasher for the Parish Hall kitchen will be very welcome.  Dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. 
  • CHOIR DAY on Saturday, September 26th  Members of the Parish Choir meet for a day-long (lunch provided) regrouping and rehearsal of fall, Advent, and Christmas anthems and service music. If you are interested in singing in the Choir, please let the office, or Vince Peterson know.
  • ACOLYTE DAY, Saturday, 11:00 to 2:00  Members of the Parish Acolyte Guild meet from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (lunch provided) for regrouping, training, and rehearsal of liturgical ministries in preparation for our return to a full round of seasonal Solemn Masses.  If you are interested in serving at the altar, please let the office, or Harold Wenglinsky know.

  • FALL SCHEDULE RETURNS THE FIRST SUNDAY IN OCTOBERSunday School at 9:45; Mass at 11:00.
  • ST. FRANCIS BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS!  October 4, 2:00 p.m., in Carroll Park!
  • ARE YOU UP FOR A HIKE?  If you would like to join fellow parishioners on a crisp fall's day-hike in the nearby Catskills on Saturday, October 10, please ask to speak with either Jenni or Sam Kessler, or contact the parish office.  "The whole earth is filled with His glory!"

The Auction Committee is accepting donations of quality items and services now. Donations must be received by Sunday, October 4th. Antiques, fine collectibles, weekend stays at vacation homes, dinners at fine restaurants or tickets to cultural events are needed. The most prized items are Special Services provided by our own parishioners.  

Can’t find treasures you can part with at home?  Perhaps you can help with our Auction Gift Baskets!  We will be putting together a number of gift baskets, and you can help by donating items for them.  Here’s a quick list.  You will find a more extensive list in your bulletin this coming Sunday. 

Baskets: 
  • Spa (soaps, lotions, etc.) Italian or Mexican Dinner (ingredients, recipes, etc.)
  • Tea for Two (teas, scones, cups, teapot, etc.)
  • Art Supplies (for kids or adults) New Baby (nappies, toiletries, toys)
  • Romantic Night Out (tickets, dinner, baby sitting, etc.)
  • Romantic Night In (champagne, dinner, candle sticks)
  • Movie Night (DVDs, popcorn, Milk Duds)
  • Emergency Basket (flashlight, duct tape, water bottles, etc.) 
  • The list could go on and on.  If you have other basket suggestions, please speak to any member of the Auction Committee.
