March 8, 2015; The Third Sunday in Lent

  • SUNDAY'S APPOINTED MASS READINGS: Exodus 20:1-17; Psalm 19; 1Corinthians 1:18-25; John 2:13-22.  Preaching:  The Rector
  • NO SUNDAY SCHOOL on March 8.  Classes resume on March 15.
  • LENTEN FOOD DRIVE:   Our Sunday School students wish to remind us all that bins for receiving nonperishable foods have been placed in the rear of the church.  On Good Friday, foods collected during Lent will be delivered by the students to the Food Pantry at First Presbyterian, Brooklyn Heights.

LENTEN EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY

  • STUDY:  After Lenten Masses, ACE invites all to join them in the Library as they continue to participate in series focusing on the place of THE TABERNACLE in the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures and worship.  This series is under the direction of Brad Winters; Sunday’s presentation will be by the Rector. 

THE DEATH OF THE RT. REV. ORRIS G. WALKER, BISHOP OF LONG ISLAND

  • Upon the occasion of the death of Bishop Walker, our Diocesan family will gather in worship at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 21, at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City.  Our prayers are asked, and all who are moved to attend his memorial are welcome.  (After his retirement, Bishop Walker retired to Detroit, MI.  His burial mass was held there.)  Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord: And let light perpetual shine upon him.  May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace.  Amen.

SPECIAL CONCERTS

  • CERDORRION VOCAL ENSEMBLE  performs at St. Paul’s tonight, Thursday evening, March 5, at  8:00 p.m.  In celebration of their 20th anniversary, the evening’s program includes works composed for Cerdorrion over their past 20 years, plus new world premiers by Martha Sullivan, Joseph Prestamo, and Christopher Ryan.  Visit Cerdorrion’s website for further information.
  • DANCE OF LIFE  This Sunday, March 8, at 8:00 p.m., and Thursday, March 12, will be the US premier performances of Roxanna Panufnik’s TALLIN MASS under the direction of Vince Peterson; the production incudes St. Paul’s Choir!  The concert will be held at New York City’s DiMenna Center.  Certainly, the wider public will be made aware of St. Paul’s, Brooklyn!  Check out www.choralchameleon.com to learn more about DANCE OF LIFE.  Tickets will be available online at that website:  $40.
