Dear Friends,
I am writing to you in this special eBlast to let you know of an important staffing change at St. Paul’s Carroll Street. After prayerful consideration, Vince Peterson, our organist and choirmaster for the past seven years, has tendered his resignation, effective January 15, 2018, so that he may more fully pursue his many other musical endeavors. In his letter of resignation, he writes: “It has been a true joy for me to serve at St. Paul’s in this capacity these many recent years. I am grateful to all of you and to Fr. Peter Cullen for placing your trust in me. It’s particularly gratifying to know that my work as a musician has been respected and needed in a sacred place as this one where there is much discernment about music.” We are also very grateful to Vince for his outstanding service to God and to St. Paul’s. I have only worked with Vince for a few Sundays, but it does not take long to appreciate his talent, commitment, and professionalism. Vince’s last Sunday will be January 14, 2018. The mass that morning will include few extra musical “enhancements” to celebrate the end of his ministry with us, and there will be a special Coffee Hour so that the parish may properly show its appreciation, say goodbye and wish him well.
The work of God continues apace. Music is an important part of our corporate spiritual and worship life at St. Paul’s, and a plan has already been set into motion. I am delighted to announce that Alex Canovas has agreed to take the reins as choir director through the end of this season, a position he held with distinction during the 2016-2017 choir season, as well. Alex is well known to the choir and to the congregation, and we are glad to have this continuity in our music program. Our new organist is Nathan Taylor, who will join us on Sunday, January 21, and continue through the summer. Nathan is returning to the city after pursuing a MBA in Florida and is very familiar with our music program and our instrument, having played for us on numerous occasions a few years ago. I am looking forward to working with Alex and Nathan, and I know that you all will welcome them both in their new roles as part of the St. Paul’s community.
Sincerely, yours in Christ
Fr. Wallace
